Inscryption Preview friv game - The Creepiest TCG
The card "bagel" Inscryption was first presented at E3 2021 as part of the presentation of the publisher Friv2Online Games Studio. Now the game is nearing release, and we have a lot to say about it after two hours spent in the demo.
Inscryption is a very atmospheric and rather creepy card game where the main character is captured by some creepy creature that shines through the eyes of the darkness. The creature offers to play cards with him, and does not seem to accept refusal.
The rules of the friv game are simple: you need to lay out cards on the table in order to attack and defeat the opponent. Among them can be both animals, such as a squirrel, a wolf or a deer, and objects, such as a stump or a cobblestone. Beasts deal damage to cards in front of them or, if there are none, to the creature itself, while objects serve as obstacles for enemy cards.
Each card has its own set of characteristics: health, damage, effects, as well as the number of points for summoning - if a squirrel and a cat can be immediately taken out of hand and put on the deck, then, for example, to summon a wolf, you will have to sacrifice two cards lying on the table. This introduces a strategic element to the gameplay: you won't be able to play strong cards whenever you want, and you will be forced to constantly shuffle the deck and periodically skip turns.
As you progress through the makeshift field from one battle to the next, you will also stumble upon random events in which you can, for example, get hold of additional items or improve one of your cards. And sometimes you can get up from the table and explore your opponent's hut - there are a lot of puzzles in it, points of interest that, it seems, will help you find your way to liberation in the future.
The enemy is strong, and you will inevitably be defeated in a fight with him. However, traditionally for the roguelike genre, death is only the beginning: if you lose, you can return, create a new card with your name and selected characteristics, and then use it in the upcoming battles.
The gameplay of Inscryption is addictive, but the atmosphere of the friv game is no less interesting: creepy, mysterious, frightening in a good way. In the semi-darkness of the hut, it is almost impossible to see the surroundings, and the eyes of the creature, burning with hellish fire, inspire primal horror. The game leaves a lot of questions and is in no hurry to answer them. Who is holding the protagonist captive? Why does one of the cards talk and swear so much? What awaits the hero at the end of the adventure?
All the plot details, I hope, we will be able to find out on October 19, when Inscryption goes to release. In the meantime, it remains to add the friv game to the wishlist and wait - fortunately, the wait is not long.
