The I./ZG 76 aircraft squadron in 1939

Three hundred meters below us is PZL 24. Unfortunately, the Pole discovered my attack too early, made a maneuver and left. It's a pity that he ran away. But I didn't have to stay mad for long. A little higher up, a point was rapidly approaching me, which turned out to be PZL. Apparently he mistook my plane for a bomber, because my car, like our bombers, was twin-engined. He started shooting from a distance. The bursts from his four machine guns, visible by the streaks of burning phosphorus, passed about 5 meters above my head. I calmly let him approach 400 meters. Then he pulled the triggers, too. However, we both kept our cool and kept heading, getting closer and faster. At the last moment, I jerked the car sharply, jumping to the left. The enemy drove the car to the right. My radio operator saw only a trail of smoke trailing behind him, then the enemy disappeared under him. It's a pity that it didn't catch fire. I didn't even have time to think about it. At a distance of 1,000 meters in front of us, one of the Poles broke out of the maelstrom of combat vehicles to gain altitude. Hiding in the shadow of his tail, I began to hover under him. I began to tremble with fear that the enemy would run away from me again. But no, he didn't see me. I opened fire from 100 meters away. Then it started to burn. His burning remains flew to the ground. The radio operator and I raised our hands in joy. At that time, it was the only way to express the joy of victory. It was impossible to even jump up because we were tied to the seats. My old friend, Sergeant Major Janike, who was with me all the time, smiled. After all, this is also his success to some extent. Mostly because he had my back all the time, staying close to me.
Since we had moved a little away from our squadron's area of operation during this commotion, we changed course to look for other aircraft. However, we didn't find time for this, because we saw another Pole again. Following the proven pattern, I tried to sneak up from behind again. However, this guy was more careful than his previously shot colleague. He recognized my intentions and dodged. This time I flew after him. At full throttle, with the side closed, we descended to the ground. He was going to run away from us. But we followed him closely. He turned off the gas and almost hung in the air, dancing on the edge. Unfortunately, I was unable to repeat this maneuver in my high-speed car. I flew past him, quickly moving away.
At the same time, the radio operator announced a probable victory over the next "P.24». It seems that he was the opponent of the later ace Jagdflieger (150 wins). On the other hand, shortly after takeoff, Marian Domagala was shot in the very center of the fuselage (fuel tank). Gasoline filled the pilot's face and hands, but he managed to escape and land at the airport. After returning to the German base, he only reported his "shelling."
